Do Whatever You Want All The Time
New Boon(e) presents a solo show of work by artist Jonathan DeDecker on March 4th at 7pm!
"Jonathan DeDecker's art is decked out with bells, whistles, cigarettes, and all kinds of other [units] in colors that almost scream for attention, losing their voice at the moment of truth. This is paint shot from a paint gun whose trigger is oiled so well that it can hardly pull much of anything anymore. Is there anger in this work? Sure, sure, and it's none other than that biological/cosmological kind you thought you had finished scraping off the bottom of your shoe last week. "What?" It's anger so primordial, you can't even be certain whether or not it's even anger anymore. "Is it a mutant? What should we do with it?
I'd like to propose a hypothesis: perhaps there's really no anger at all, and DeDecker's work is, more than anything, a canvas upon which we, the viewers can project our own feelings, thoughts, flows, and stuff like that. Better than a blank canvas, which can receive only empty openness, DeDecker's work digs past our neurons, and into those systems which are less finicky, but have been gathering potential for years, whose streams of active reactivity then get sprayed out into the gallery, with no protective nerve-netting to hold it back. But hey, don't take my word for it, you've gotta ch-ch-ch-Check It Out!"
The exhibition will open for First Friday, March 4th from 7-10pm
